Notice of Race

The regatta is initiated by Swan Club Denmark for SWAN-class yachts organised jointly by the Royal Danish Yacht Club, Skovshoved Yachtclub and Hellerup Yachtclub and raced on the well-known racing area of Øresund. The aim of the regatta is to provide enjoyable and competitive racing for Swan yachts of various designs or vintages, their owners, families and friends and to provide a varied and entertaining social programme ashore. The regatta is the fist event out of 2 counting for the Baltic Challenge.

1. RULES
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing, except as changed by these sailing instructions
1.2 The applying prescriptions of the Scandinavian Sailing Association and the Danish Sailing Association are incorporated into these sailing instructions.
1.3 ISAF Offshore Committee Special Regulations 2003 for Category 4 will apply.
1.4 Nautor Swan rating 2008 Rules and Regulations will apply.
1.5 The Racing rules will be changed as follows:
Rules 30.2 and 30.3 are changed by the prescription of the Scandinavian Sailing Association in no. 12.2.
Rules 35 and A4 are changed. See SI no. 16.3.
Rule 60.1(a) is changed. See SI no. 17.5.
Rules 61.3 and 62.2 are changed. See SI no. 17.2.
Rule 66 is changed. See SI no. 17.6.
Rule A4.1 is changed. See SI no. 12.3.
1.6 If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence.

2. ADVERTIZING.

2.1 Boats may be required to display advertising in accordance with ISAF Regulation 20.3.1(b), Category C.

3. ELIGIBILITY, CLASSES AND RATING
3.1 The regatta is open to all Nautor Swan yachts.

3.2 The organisers will assign each yacht a TCF, derived from the Standard NSR 2008 Rating, based on filing a declaration of conformity to the standard boats list from RORC. Yachts failing to comply with this list, will be assigned a TFC by the organising committee. A list of competitors with the assigned ratings will be posted on the website www.balticseachallenge.dk as well as on the official notice board prior to the races.

3.3 If any boat holds a Nautor Swan Certificate, issued 2008 by RORC, showing a difference between the "Standard" TCF and the boat specific TCF, the Race Committee will consider to half the difference between the TCF’s.

3.4 The fleet may be divided into classes

4. FEES
4.1 Entry fee is DKK 4.700,00/EUR 635,00 and incl. up to 12 sailing crewmembers. Further entry bands for Crew/family can be bought for DKK 500,00/EUR 70,00. Fee must be paid to Forstædernes Bank, Stengade 63, DK-3000 Helsingør, account # 5494 1700031, Swift FBBKDKKK, IBAN no DK0554940001700031.not later than May 10 2005.

5. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS. Draft sailing instructions will be available on the regatta web site before the regatta. The sailing instructions will furthermore be available at registration.

6. THE COURSES
6.1 Marks in the offshore and inshore courses will be navigational marks together with inflated marks. A list with the relevant buoys and marks and their positions will be attached to the sailing instructions
6.2 RACE 1: Offshore race, 30-60 NM. The configuration of the course for each class will be presented at the skippers meeting and will furthermore be posted on the Notice Board
6.2 RACE 2: Windward/Leeward Race with obstructions, 10-15 NM, to be presented at the skippers meeting .
6.2 RACE 3: Windward/Leeward Race, 8-10 NM, to be presented at the skippers meeting
6.2 RACE 4: Inshore race, 15-40 NM. The configuration of the course for each class will be presented at the skippers meeting and will furthermore be posted on the Notice Board

7. SCORING
7.1The Low Point scoring system of Appendix A will apply.
Class finishing places will be calculated using each yacht's corrected time calculated from: Corrected Time = Elapsed time x TCF.
Fleet finishing places will be calculated using each yacht's corrected speed calculated from:
Corrected Speed = Class Course Length / Corrected Time
7.2 4 races are scheduled of which 3 races are required to constitute a series.
7.3 A boat's series score will be the total of her race scores.

8. SAFETY
8.1 Danish legislation requires every boat to be equipped with personal buoyancy for the number of persons on board at any time

There will be daily prizes in every group as well as an over all price, donated by the day main sponsor.

A perpetual trophy has been donated to the regatta for the best fleet finishing place and overall prices for the three best fleet finishing places.

The organisers are planning a social programme for every day after sailing; happy hour, dinner, bar & music in indoors facilities. There will be a free breakfast buffet for all participants each morning.

Skovshoved harbour is situated approx. 10 km north of the centre of Copenhagen in an attractive yachting and urban area. It is an attractive yacht harbour with all facilities available to cater for a fleet of Swans. Depth is limited to 3.5 m. There is a clubhouse for the two residing yacht clubs, the Royal Danish Yacht Club and Skovshoved Yacht Club with a restaurant from which there is a full view of the racing area. It is easily accessible from the E 45 and with public transportation from the centre of Copenhagen and Kastrup International Airport.

Accommodation is available on nearby hotels, a list of which will be made available on the event website www.balticseachallenge.dk. We would like to stress that the earlier you book, the greater is your choice of location, size, facilities and price. During the spring season the Copenhagen area is visited by many tourists all requiring lodging.
